FAQs

How Long Will I/We Need Therapy For?
It is impossible to say at the start of our work together.  The duration of couple therapy varies depending on the specific issues and the progress made. It can range from a few sessions to several months or longer. Throughout the therapy we will be able to consider and review progress and discuss when it feels appropriate to end the therapy.

Will You Tell Us What to Do?
I won’t tell you what to do; my role is to facilitate you in working through your issues and resolving conflict. See About Me section for information about my approach.

How Often Do We Meet?
If we decide to proceed with regular therapy, all sessions are weekly and 50 minutes in duration.

What Is Your Cancellation Policy?
In most cases all cancellations and missed sessions are chargeable, unless agreed otherwise. I reserve a weekly slot for your session at the same time on the same day each week. It will not be offered or made available to anyone else in the event you are unable to attend. However, if prior notice is given (min. 24 hours), I will always try to reschedule a session if you are unable to attend (subject to availability).

How Do I/We Choose The Right Therapist?
For individuals and couples having therapy, it is essential to find a therapist with whom you feel comfortable with.

If you are having couple therapy, couples therapists are specifically trained to work with couples facing relationship challenges. However, all therapists are different and it's important that you and your partner both feel you have a good fit with the therapist. You can start by asking for recommendations from trusted sources or searching for licensed therapists online.

Is Everything Discussed In Therapy Confidential?

In general, therapy sessions are confidential, and therapists are bound by ethical guidelines to protect the privacy of their clients. However, there are exceptions to confidentiality. These are outlined in the client contract and can be discussed in the initial consultation.

Is It Possible For Relationship Therapy To Rescue A Relationship In Crisis?

Couple therapy can help couples address issues and work toward resolution, but it doesn't guarantee that a couple will ultimately choose to stay together. Sometimes, couples may realize through therapy that separation is the best option for both parties.

Is Relationship/Couple Therapy Only for Couples In Crisis?

While couples may consider therapy when they are facing specific challenges, relationship/couple therapy can also help with exploring next steps in your relationship together, or as a proactive step to strengthen your relationship.

Do Both Partners Need To Attend Sessions?

It is important for both partners to attend sessions together to maximise the benefits of couple therapy. However, in some cases, one partner may choose to attend individual therapy sessions in addition to couple therapy.
